ECS is research-led, but also strives for excellence in teaching and in enterprise. Our main research strengths are our interdisciplinary and collaborative culture, which means that research expertise is wide-ranging, both in terms of the subject disciplines we cover, but also in terms of covering the spectrum from theoretical foundations through to the deployment of real-world applications.

There are around 540 researchers in ECS, making it one of the UK’s most exciting and successful academic research environments. Our research income is around £12M annually and our current research portfolio is worth about £42M.
